| Let’s suppose a member of KBC gives you three million dollars because they could. You pay off all your debts (mortgage, car, credit cards etc), resign from your boring job and live off the dividends received from investing the rest of the money. You are in effect set up for life, the world is your oyster and you owe it all to the generosity of this person. Let me suggest that you would feel beholden to this person to the extent that you would commit to go out of your way to do anything in your power to help them as a way of showing your deep gratitude and appreciation for their faith in you. Faith is:
Commitment is:
As Christians we profess a faith in Christ Jesus and commit our lives to living accordingly. OR DO WE?? Sure we go to church and try our best not to sin but are we as committed as in the example above. Do we go out of our way to serve Christ both in our church family and in the wider community or would we rather leave it up to others? Have we lost sight of the enormity our triune God???? If we focus (really focus) on who God/Christ is and what He has done for us a committed life would surely follow. “For God so loved the world that he gave His only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) This is truly awesome news. To give His son so that we may have life and have it more abundantly! And yet we know this truth but do we ever really commit our lives, our time, and our resources to serving our Saviour?? “To him who by means of his power working in us is able to do so much more than we can ever ask for , or even think of:” (Ephesians 3:20)…conditions apply. Wow! Makes the three million dollars pale into insignificance (“….ever ask for or even think of.”), and yet our commitment to Christ (for many of us) is sporadic to say the least. As we once again look forward to Christmas and celebrating the birth of our Saviour let us refocus on our ‘awesome God ‘ and become more committed to serving Him, until ‘Jesus comes and brings us to the visible Kingdom of God on earth’. NB: intercessory prayer is a very effective way of serving the Lord. By Team Kingsmill |
