| Daniel, Rob, Aadjan and I were all sitting at the zoo one day, chatting about how we could change the world. Daniel then went on to tell us about a certain DVD, Invisible Children. Invisible Children is basically a DVD that has been taken by three young American guys, and it shows the life of Northern Ugandan children, that are being kidnapped by a rebel army, the lord’s resistance army. We rocked back to my place, and watched this DVD. After we watched it, we all sat there, seriously disturbed. We couldn’t just watch this without doing something about it. So we decided to hold our own invisible children’s night, to raise money for the invisible children organization, as well as raising awareness of the situation in Northern Uganda. The date was set, Saturday 7pm, on the 26th August, and from there we just came up with ideas. We decided to set the church up as a rugged African scene, and really create the atmosphere. With Aadjan’s expertise, the foyer and auditorium were set up, and the boys even went to the trouble of lugging an authentic African land rover to the church, just to set the scene. Various groups such as Sarah’s beautiful dancers, and the worship band, with Nathan, practiced and organized to do performances. Roger McCay was roped in to speak, and with robs slightly geeky computer skills (just jokes rob!) we interviewed locals, asking them questions about Northern Uganda. These interviews were played on the night. The night was very successfully, many hearts were touched, and we raised a grand total of $2100, which was promptly sent over to the invisible children organization in America. Thank you to everyone who helped out, it was a real blessing to see the church supporting us and our efforts. Especially thanks to Libby, who allowed us to raid her house and use her African stuff, as well as the land rover, as well as Caroline, who ran our small café that supplied refreshments after the event. We all appreciated the work that everyone put in to make this a hugely successful evening. |
