From January 10 - 17, 2009, about a hundred young adults from all over New Zealand will come to Snell's Beach, north of Auckland, to engage in a week long conversation about life, faith, and what it means to be truly human. They gather together from all over the country to explore the narrative of the Bible and to examine the foundations that underpin an extraordinary life. Compass is a seven day worldview conference which asks the big questions about how faith and life connect.
At Compass, expect to be encouraged to look seriously at what you believe and why, to be challenged to think critically, engage creatively and to translate the Gospel into everyday living.
Who's it for?
Compass is aimed at young adults aged 18 - 30, but we have no formal age limits. It is aimed at university students who want to explore how their faith makes sense as a worldview. It is for young leaders who want to be inspired to work out the implications of the gospel in the spheres of society that they touch. It is for anyone who wants to discover how the Biblical narrative holds together and frames all of life. It is for people who want to spend a week having conversations about what it means to be really, fully human.

Hey guys. This got emailed to me a few weeks back and is actually a pretty challenging and inspiring story so though I'd share it with you. If you ever find anything that is inspiring or just plain hilarious forward me the link through "Dr Gav" and I'll get it up.Congrats to Susie & Massey High - Winners of Bring It On (West)
The Reach Cookoff - and the winners are...

Congratulations to Donald and the boys - they are the undisputed Cookoff Champions for 2008.
With slick hair do's and some seranading on the guitars, the food quality wasn't the be all and end all but according to the judges even that was of top quality.
Bex and Kelly's small group came a very close second, creating an awesome atmosphere with their hay bales and cowboy gears. Second though is still second and the girls will have to go one better next year if they want that champions tag.

The boys have won themselves a night of being treated like royalty next term and no doubt impressed the girls with their talents.
Big thanks go out to Amy and the girls who put on such an awesome event. The photos are now up in the gallery although don't be surprised if you find that half are of Nika who was entrusted with the camera!Leaders Resource Contents Page

(Gav and Amy went sea kayaking in the Queen Charlotte Sound for 5 days and this seal decided to put on a display right in front of their noses!)

(Andrew, Daniel, Gavin, Kane, Luke and Rhyder went sea kayaking as well but this time at Mahurangi. Kane had a fish literally jump into his boat - lucky it wasn't that seal though! The boys also did tree climbing and a pretty exposed abseil off the sea cliffs so all credit for gutsing it out despite the wind and rain at times!)Easter Camp 2008 - photos now online!

Wow, first Nathan & Carla and now Paul & Ruth have gotten engaged - something must be in the air!
Huge congrats to Paul for somehow managing to get Ruth to say 'yes' and congrats too to Ruth for you've stolen another handsome bachelor from the Kumeu pool! It looks from the photos like it was a very special day!

Wow, what an awesome Parachute Festival that was eh! Weren't Switchfoot and Hillsong awesome!!!
We have now done the final calculations for the donut machine fundraiser and we think we have raised around $4000 for local missions that we will do at The Reach this year and the big Adventure Camp in October. For one weekend that is unbelievable and the donut guy reckons we must have run the machine super well this year to get through so many donuts! So a massive huge ups to you guys and girls that helped, you were awesome! A special thanks to Donald who organised it all and somehow stayed calm throughout, you're amazing mate!Kent & Kharma's Wedding Photos

Kent and Kharma's wedding photos are now online.
Click here to check them out...what an awesome couple!!!Thinking of getting baptised?

As we've mentioned recently at The Reach, we're looking at having a special service for those youth that want to get baptised later this term but if that's too soon for you then we will make another opportunity for you.
It does sound like a number of you are currently thinking about baptism so no doubt there's heaps of questions and thoughts going through you're mind like, "why should I bother getting baptised?", "am I too young to get baptised now?" or "is it the right time for me?"
The best thing for you to do is to talk to your small group leader or any of the leaders you feel comfortable with. Some of the youth at The Reach have already been baptised (e.g. Jo and Donald Burnett got baptised last year) so you could talk to them too about their experience and why they did it.
If though you would rather just think through things first, I've put some of my thoughts in this article.
If you've got any other questions or want me to expand on something, just click on Dr Gav and you can ask it annonymously.
Click on "read the rest" to see my questions and answers. I will update the below as I receive more questions/thoughts.Falling Faster - Nathan and Bernie

Wow, weren't Nathan and Bernie just awesome the other night!!! Talk about some mean talent...these guys are going to be huge! Parachute doesn't know what it's missing but they will soon enough!
Click here to check out the Falling Faster myspace website and enjoy listening to music.
If you want to buy their initial cd release, just bring $2 to youthgroup and Nathan will set you up!Faith and commitment
Let’s suppose a member of KBC gives you three million dollars because they could. You pay off all your debts (mortgage, car, credit cards etc), resign from your boring job and live off the dividends received from investing the rest of the money. You are in effect set up for life, the world is your oyster and you owe it all to the generosity of this person.Mars Hill - Weekly teachings
The weekly sermons from Mars Hill Bible Church (Rob Bell) are now available on our website! These are in MP3 format. You can listen to them online, or download them to listen on your iPod, Zen, Zune, whatever! Click through for more information.A whole range of videos available
Videos are usually grouped together into their own category.
You can see all the videos in this category here »
or view all content with the word Video in it here »
NOTE: If you stumble across any cool videos on websites like YouTube or Google Video etc, then let us know and maybe we will put them up here for everyone to see.

This term is about looking at our boundaries. On the right hand side you'll see a new poll where you can tell us where you would draw the line. The first poll is on physical intimacy so let us know where you stand
Congratulations to Nathan and Carla who got engaged last week!!! Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaa! You'll have to ask Nathan for all the goss on how he did it but for now congrats to them and bring on the wedding (rumour has it that it will be mid-year sometime!).
